There is no airport on Lefkada island, so one can choose to fly into one of the main air-gateways of Greece. The closest one to Lefkada is Aktion (Preveza) airport, which is located approximately 18km northeast of Lefkada. There are direct flight connections to Aktion aiport from many European airports, so please consult your travel agent for further details. The next air-gateway into Greece is found approximately 100km to the north, on Corfu, the neighbour island of Lefkada. Flights to Corfu airport are available from almost every European airport. The short distance from Corfu to Lefkada can be travelled by ferry boat from Corfu to Igoumeitsa and from there by Milos mini bus. Ferry boats to Igoumenitsa leave Corfu daily between 06:00 and 22:00 and it only takes about 1 - 1.5 hours to reach the mainland at Igoumenitsa port. There is also a flight from Corfu to Aktion aiport once a week with Olympic Airways. Some travellers choose a different route and fly into Athens international aiport. From there, one can take a domestic flight to Aktion airport several times per week, or easily reach Lefkada by bus (there are several busses a day that leave Athens towards Lefkada and the approximately 4 hour journey will reward the traveller with marvellous views of beautiful landscapes). If you do not like flying or for some other reason decide to drive your own vehicle to Lefkada, you can easily do so as Lefkada is the only island in Greece which is "connected" to the mainland. A journey by car, motorcycle or bus is therefore possible by ferry from Italy which will get you to the port of either Igoumenitsa or Patra.
